Having made his debut in the WWE in January 2010, after a stint with the Florida Championship Wrestling, an umbrella organization of the WWE where he was a huge success, becoming the Heavyweight Champion, a lot was expected from him when he made the step up to the WWE but so far, apart from an alliance with The New Nexus and a few victories here and there, Mason Ryan has not done anything of note.

And as per the latest reports, he has been added to the roster of the Florida Championship Wrestling once again as a last minute entry and it might just happen that if he fails to capture the imagination of the trainers and members of the organization during this stint, Mason Ryan might as well bid goodbye to a career in the WWE, that began with a promise but ended up with a whimper.

The former New Nexus member was last given a push to succeed in the industry just after he quit the New Nexus and was showing promising as singles wrestler and it looked as if Mason Ryan was the next big thing in the industry. However, with the crowd at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York favoring Cody Rhodes, the son of the legendary The American Dream Dusty Rhodes in their traditional Survivor Series match, the WWE decided to stop promoting him on a regular basis.

Since that time, Ryan has made only a handful televised appearances in the WWE on Raw and was made to wrestle in the Florida Championship Wrestling or the FCW, the training wing of the WWE. However, with most of the senior members of the WWE board once again lobbying for a successful comeback into mainstream wrestling for Mason Ryan, it seems that the wrestler from Wales is about the big superstar in the industry that he had once dreamed of becoming and which had led him to come to the United States.

However, Mason Ryan was part of Team Orton at the 25th Anniversary of Survivor Series in 2011. He was eliminated by Cody Rhodes. Previously Ryan had fought United States Champion Dolph Ziggler in a non-title match on three occasions, and emerged victorious twice proving his capabilities. He had also joint hands with Air Boom, Sheamus, CM Punk and John Cena in a 12-man Tag match defeating the team of Alberto Del Rio, Christian, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger and David Otunga.

Mason Ryan trained at a professional wrestling school in Birkenhead and prior to appearing on Gladiators, he had competed in almost 100 matches in countries like Egypt and Venezuela. He has worked as a trainee carpenter and also helped in his family’s funeral home business prior to becoming a professional wrestler. He also played football as a centre-back for Welsh Premier League side Porthmadog, but he had to give up the sport due to a knee injury.  He then appeared in the second series of the reality series Gladiators in 2009, under the name “Goliath”.

Ryan Mason later debuted in the WWE developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) in January 2010 and won almost against all his competitors and went on to win the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship for the first time. However, on 3 February 2011, Ryan lost the Championship to Bo Rotund.
